Spelling: -C or K?
C of K ? C or K?
For Dutch words, we write K when we hear K.
For foreign words, it is more difficult: sometimes C when we hear K.
A few rules
We write -C :
1. Words ending in -ect | correct | Except for : sekt |
2. Words ending in -uct | product | |
3. Words ending in -ctief | actief | |
4. Words ending in -catie, caris, catief | publicatie | |
5. Words ending in oct- | octaaf | Except for : oktober |
We write -K :
Words beginning with elektr- | elektriciteit |

akkoord | accorderen |
catalogus, catamaran, catastrofe | katafalk, katalysator, katapult |
klimatiseren | acclimatiseren |
kordon | cordon bleu |
kritiek, kritisch, kritiseren, krimi | criticus, criticaster, crimineel |
